How do you match families with Au Pairs?
At Momiji Co, we carefully assess the requirements of both the families and the Au Pairs/Demi Pairs to ensure a perfect match. Our detailed matching process considers preferences, personalities, and needs of the family to create harmonious placements that benefit both parties. We do background checks, interview and train all our Au Pairs and Demi Pairs.
What support do you offer during the placement?
Throughout the placement process, we provide continuous support to both the families and the Au Pairs/Demi Pairs. Our team is available to address any concerns, provide guidance, and facilitate effective communication to ensure a smooth and enriching experience for everyone involved.
How does cultural exchange benefit my children?
Cultural exchange through our Au Pair and Demi Pair programs exposes your children to a new language, different traditions, and perspectives, broadening their horizons and opening their minds to the world. It's a unique opportunity for them to learn about a different culture and form meaningful connections with individuals from Japan.
What is the placement process?
After filling out the family application form, we will request photos of your family and home (particularly the Au Pair/Demi Pairs room/bathroom, a cover letter addressed to the Au Pair/Demi Pair, a copy of a photo ID and police check for each adult in the household. Once we receive these documents, we will send an invoice for the fee of $200 and schedule a video interview to discuss your needs. We will then search for a match, which may take up to 12 weeks. Once we find the best match for your family, we will send their profile for your consideration. Once excepted we will send an invitation for the selected Au Pair/Demi Pair to start the placement process. If either party would like to do a video interview, we can assist in that.
Will it be like having another child to look after?
No, they are contributing adults in the household. When sharing meals with you, they should be helping set/clear/wipe the table, cleaning dishes and emptying/stacking the dishwasher. They take care of their own washing and cleaning of their room. They can also prepare their own food if you are not home as long is there is food for them to do so. They are here to make your life easier, not harder. Please always let us know if this is not happening so we can discuss it with them, sometimes it can be just a misunderstanding of expectations or because they are just shy.
Why should I use an agency?
Having the peace of mind of pre-screening and the involvement of a mediator in case of any issues, ensures that the Au Pair/Demi Pair can be replaced in case of major problems. Not to mention, we do the searching for you so you have more time for other things.
Do they need their own bathroom?
It is perfectly fine for them to share a bathroom. Most houses in Japan only have one bathroom.
Do I need to cook every meal for them?
You don’t need to cook specifically for them, they are definitely able to prepare food for themselves as long as there is food for them to use (make sure to let them know what the can use as they will usually be too shy to help themselves). They will enjoy sharing meals with the family but if you aren’t eating together just make sure there is food for them to eat whether it is leftovers, packets of ramen/instant noodles or food for them to cook or make sandwiches etc. If they are out without you, i.e. with friends or at school/work, they can buy their own food.
